Jukka Kervinen, Ph.D.
Applications Scientist
Process Chromatography
Jukka performed graduate research at the Universities of Jyvaskyla and Helsinki, Finland, and received his Ph.D. in Cell and Molecular Biology from the University of Jyvaskyla. As a post-doctoral fellow at the National Cancer Institute in Frederick, MD, he studied plant and retroviral proteases using X-ray crystallography. He continued protein biochemical research on tetrapyrrole (e.g. heme, chlorophyll) biosynthesis at the Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia, PA, prior to moving to the pharmaceutical industry to study inflammatory, metabolic and infectious diseases. At Fraunhofer USA Center for Molecular Biotechnology in 2012-18, his main responsibilities were to develop efficient protein purification processes for mAbs and other novel biologics that can be feasibly and cost-efficiently scaled-up to bioprocessing facility production in the cGMP environment. Jukka joined Tosoh Bioscience LLC in February 2018. His primary role will consist of developing applications for Tosoh process media, testing chromatographic methods for process optimization and assisting customers for technical questions.
